Thompson Named AHA Senior Vice President for Nursing
New role will focus on national workforce agenda issues
The American Hospital Association (AHA) has named Pamela A. Thompson, MS, RN, CENP, FAAN, AHA senior vice president for nursing. In addition to this new role, Thompson will continue to maintain her current duties as AONE chief executive officer (CEO). AONE is a subsidiary of AHA.
A current member of the AHA executive team, Thompson will lead a coordinated internal team effort on workforce issues impacting health care organizations. "Employment projections indicate that while health care will be a growth sector in the coming years, shortages in key areas such as nursing will require not only an increased supply, but also a significant redesign of how care is provided. Pam will serve an instrumental role in strengthening AHA's workforce agenda and aligning the association's internal efforts to best serve our members," said AHA president and CEO Rich Umbdenstock.
In her role as AONE CEO, Thompson represents nurse leaders on a number of initiatives including healthful practice workforce environments, quality and safety, and the design of future patient care delivery via the nationally-recognized Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) initiative. She currently serves as chair of the board of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF).
